The Invisible Circus is a creative platform for people on the fringes of mainstream society. It offers the chance to do something different, to avoid being consumed or controlled by money, and embrace playfulness. As a community of like-minded individuals, it has become less about performance in a circus and more about a way of life. The crux of The Invisible Circus is the desire to be bold and imaginative, to work together in order to create something new and exciting.

The real birth of The Invisible Circus began in a vast, cold building in Bristol where most of the performers squatted and rehearsed. Since then, the majority have moved on to other alternative homes but have continued this sense of communal living. For some, the circus element is now less central to their lives, but it has nevertheless shaped their values and outlook. This project has focused on active members of The Invisible Circus and their alternative, itinerant lifestyles that go hand in hand with performance.
